Born in Indonesia and raised in Santa Barbara, Chef Budi Kazali was destined to bring multicultural flavors together in impeccable cuisine. After refining his culinary skills at the California Culinary Academy, he began exploring fine French cuisine at San Francisco’s La Folie and top-drawer Asian influences at Boston’s Blue Ginger. After working at these and other top West and East Coast kitchens, he came home to the Santa Barbara area.

In 2004, in the Santa Ynez Valley’s tiny town of Ballard, Kazali and his wife, Chris, purchased the quaint Ballard Inn and opened the Gathering Table restaurant. There, his love of cross-cultural cooking, melding Asian and French influences, has matured and made him well-known to California foodies. Winner of the Central Coast Magazine’s Ultimate Chef competition, Kazali has also seen the Gathering Table named as Best Restaurant in Santa Barbara County by Zagat. Comfortable coexisting with the California Central Coast’s numerous horse ranches, Kazali will be right at home when he visits at The Resort at Paws Up.
