Rhett Miller of Old 97’s
Hudson Valley, NY
After the plates are cleared and the sun has set, bob your head along with Hudson Valley resident Rhett Miller. He’ll be playing tunes from his latest solo LP, The Messenger, which Rolling Stone says is filled with “hooky and well-calibrated confessionals.”
A prolific songwriter and performer, Miller has released numerous solo albums in addition to his extensive discography as the front man of the much-loved alt-country act the Old 97’s. Miller is known for folding eloquent lyrics into his driving Americana-punk-pop melodies. He has also penned short stories, essays and articles for publications including The Atlantic, McSweeney’s, Rolling Stone and Sports Illustrated.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26
THE TIMBER RATTLERS
The Timber Rattlers is an energetic acoustic band with bluegrass roots. The Rattlers play fast-paced dance tunes, instrumentals, old school resonator blues, unique covers and ear-catching originals. The band members bring their touring history and seasoned musicianship to the table to provide a sought-after bluegrass sound. A great musical backdrop for your favorite beer or cocktail.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
Missoula, Montana’s Mudslide Charley creates a powerful expression of 21st century blues. The band’s inspiration comes from an era when guys like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker fused the rough-and-rural vibe of Southern acoustic blues with modern electric instruments. Firmly planted in the dirt of the Mississippi Delta, the band weaves together blues, hip-hop and R&B into the fabric of its sound to write and perform songs that exude emotional fervor and joyous spontaneity.
Simultaneously brash and playful, the band’s songs tell vital stories full of danger and hope. Loaded with groove and inspired by a patchwork of American roots music, Mudslide Charley’s brand of gutbucket blues and ramshackle soul is as authentic as it is original and will surely make you want to get up and dance.
